New Quality Productivity Empowers "Old Third Line" Enterprises Series Report/Part 3

Recently, the world's largest "AC to DC" transmission capacity project and China's first "AC to DC" transmission project, the "Yangzhou Zhenjiang" ± 200 kV DC transmission project, has been officially completed and put into operation. Among them, all AC/DC filter capacitors and AC/DC RI capacitors (10 types of products in total) used in the "Jindong Converter Station" at the receiving end of the project are developed and produced by Guilin Power Capacitor Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "Guilin Capacitor Company"). This batch of products has the characteristics of small footprint, high reliability, high seismic performance, strong anti fouling ability, low noise, and small capacitance deviation. The technical performance has reached the international leading level.

Guirong Company was founded in 1967, formerly known as Guilin Power Capacitor Factory, and is the first large-scale power capacitor factory independently designed and constructed in China. After more than 50 years of development, the company has become a large-scale and advanced capacitor production base in the world, as well as a national level specialized and innovative "little giant" enterprise, and has won two special awards and one first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

During the "Third Line Construction" period, the first large-scale power capacitor factory independently designed and constructed by China settled in Guilin

Recently, the reporter visited Guirong Company located in Tieshan Industrial Park, High tech Zone. Unlike the previously visited "old third line" enterprises, the factory area here is planned in an orderly manner, with high-end and atmospheric factories and clean and tidy office areas. The street lights installed on the factory roads are all solar powered.

This factory was built and put into operation in December 2009, covering an area of about 150 acres. It is a large-scale capacitor production base worldwide, "said Li Gang, Vice General Manager of Guirong Company.

Li Gang introduced that in 1953, the Soviet Union assisted in the construction of 156 industrial projects in China, and Xi'an Power Capacitor Factory was one of them. It was also the only large-scale power capacitor factory in the country before 1967. In the 1960s, after the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China implemented the "Three Line Construction" strategic project, the former Ministry of Machinery Industry decided to build the Guilin Power Capacitor Factory and dispatched nearly half of the experts and technical personnel from the Xi'an Power Capacitor Factory to Guilin for assistance. The factory was located at the foot of Pingfeng Mountain.

Pingfengshan Bishan Cave has an open and stable mountain body. Due to the special historical period at that time, the first factory was built in Bishan Cave.

In 1970, the first batch of factory buildings were completed; On June 30th of that year, the first batch of 41 parallel capacitors were successfully developed and produced offline. In June 1972, Guilin Power Capacitor Factory was officially put into operation after passing the acceptance inspection. This is the first large-scale power capacitor factory independently designed and constructed in China.

In 1988, Guilin Power Capacitor Factory successfully developed the first set of 5400 kV impulse voltage generator, filling the domestic gap.

In 1996, Guilin Power Capacitor Factory exported full film parallel capacitors to Pakistan, marking the first time the products entered the international market.

In 1997, the first AAM8.023-17.01 AC filter capacitor and DAM30-3.0 DC filter capacitor were successfully developed by Guilin Power Capacitor Factory, replacing imported products in China's first ultra-high voltage DC transmission project "Gezhouba Nanqiao" ± 500 kV DC transmission and transformation project, achieving the localization of related products.

As an important component of the power system, the development level of power capacitors is directly related to the safe and stable operation of the power system and the improvement of power quality. Since the beginning of the 21st century, China's power industry has achieved a "one-man" development, and the construction of a large number of power infrastructure projects has provided a "huge" number of orders for the power capacitor industry, greatly stimulating the industry's development. In the global power capacitor industry, Chinese enterprises have gradually shifted from "following" to "leading", achieving "straight-line overtaking", "said Li Gang.

In 2005, the first (domestically pioneering) 750 kV capacitive voltage transformer was successfully developed by Guilin Power Capacitor Factory and operated in the "Qinghai Guanting Gansu Lanzhou East" 750 kV ultra-high voltage AC transmission test demonstration project.

In order to adapt to the tide of reform and development, in September 2006, Guilin Power Capacitor Factory introduced strategic investor Guangzhou Baiyun Electric Group Co., Ltd. through capital increase and share expansion. After the restructuring, Guirong Company became a privately-owned mixed ownership enterprise.

Li Gang said, "Guangzhou Baiyun is a high-tech enterprise mainly engaged in research and development, manufacturing, and sales of power transmission and distribution equipment. Its alliance with Guirong Company is a strong combination of high-quality capital and high-quality brands. After taking over Guirong Company, through injecting funds and upgrading business concepts, it has continuously moved towards a large modern enterprise with scientific management, modern technology, and diversified products

On December 19, 2009, the production base of Guirong Company, which invested 290 million yuan, was officially completed and put into operation. At that time, it was the world's largest production base for power capacitors.

Innovatively allocating production factors and accelerating the formation of high-quality productivity

Led by Mo Guoping, Director of the Process Technology Department of Guirong Company, the reporter walked into the production workshop. There is a wet water carpet at the entrance of the workshop to prevent dust from entering the shoes when personnel enter. Mo Guoping introduced, "In the middle of this workshop is the raw material temporary storage room, and on both sides are the capacitor production line and the transformer production line. The core processes on the company's production line all use fully automated production equipment, with strict requirements for cleanliness, temperature, and humidity. Only a small number of technical personnel are needed for monitoring and management, and only a few processes such as the capacitor unit production assembly line in the production line are semi automated

The semi-finished products such as capacitors and transformers produced from the capacitor production line and transformer production line are transported by loading flatcars to different equipment such as vacuum tanks and cleaning pressure tanks. The equipment automatically completes multiple processes and then transported to the testing station for testing through the chain plate line. After the experiment is completed, the product is painted and then enters the final workshop. After assembly, it is officially offline and ready to be shipped to markets around the world.

The reporter saw in the paint spraying workshop that technicians were debugging two intelligent paint spraying robots. It is reported that in order to cultivate new quality productivity, Guirong Company launched the construction of a robot automatic painting line project in May last year, which has been basically completed and is expected to be put into use in July this year. After it is put into use, workers only need to input instructions, and the spray painting robot can complete hundreds of sets of product spray painting work every day, which can reduce manpower by more than half, reduce labor intensity, and further improve spray painting efficiency and stability. It can also effectively reduce environmental pollution.

Subsequently, the reporter visited the dry-type capacitor production base of Guirong Company, which will be put into use in 2022. Each production line here is equipped with automated and intelligent equipment, especially industrial robots, which have been widely used.

To cultivate new quality productivity means innovative allocation of production factors and deep transformation and upgrading of industries, "said Mo Guoping. The company closely follows the trend of intelligent development, and industrial robots are widely used in the production process. The company currently has various industrial robots such as welding robots, handling robots, testing robots, capacitor product robots, painting lines, etc. Laser processing technology is a cutting-edge processing technology, and in recent years, the company has also taken the lead in the application of laser technology in the industry. It currently has various laser processing equipment such as fully automatic fiber laser pipe cutting machines, 12 kW laser cutting machines, handheld laser welding machines, and aluminum foil laser drilling machines. The use of a large number of automated and intelligent devices has greatly improved the company's manufacturing level and reduced the labor intensity of workers.

At the same time, Guirong Company also vigorously creates green factories, implements project construction according to the concept of green manufacturing, adopts green manufacturing mode, focuses on developing circular economy, practices energy conservation and emission reduction, and ensures that products do not produce environmental pollution or minimize environmental pollution throughout their entire life cycle from design, manufacturing, use to disposal, in compliance with environmental protection requirements, and saves resources and energy. In terms of reducing production waste, recycling and reusing waste hot water through wastewater filtration systems can achieve the effect of saving water and heat energy, and improve the efficiency of purifying discharged wastewater; All water used in the vacuum process is recycled, which can save over 700000 tons of water annually.

According to statistics, over the past 50 years, Guirong Company has produced and sold more than 3.5 million units (sets) of various types of capacitor products. "Guirong Brand" products are not only popular domestically, but also exported to more than 30 countries and regions such as Pakistan, Belarus, Brazil, Chile, Australia, etc., making positive contributions to the development of global industries such as electricity, metallurgy, railways, petrochemicals, and coal.

Strengthen the research and development of core technologies to accumulate momentum and empower the development of new quality productivity

In the 1000 kV high-voltage testing hall of Guirong Company, there are multiple sets of equipment and instruments. This laboratory is a high-voltage testing room for capacitive voltage transformers, which can complete factory tests, partial type tests, and special tests for products including 35 kV to 1000 kV voltage level capacitive voltage transformers, porcelain capacitors, and current transformers below 220 kV. Huang Guifa, director of the Technical Research and Development Center of Guirong Company, introduced that technological innovation is the key to cultivating new quality productivity. For a long time, the company has attached great importance to technological innovation work.

According to relevant data, China's coal resources are mainly distributed in the western and northern regions of the country, while hydropower resources are mainly concentrated in the southwest region. The primary energy resources in the eastern region are scarce and the electricity load is relatively concentrated. Since the 21st century, the country has implemented the "West East Electricity Transmission" power project.

China has a vast territory and a long distance between the east and west. The transmission distance of ordinary power grids is only about 500 kilometers, which cannot meet the transmission requirements. Only by using ultra-high voltage (i.e. voltage levels of ± 800 kV and above DC and 1000 kV and above AC) power grids can we meet the needs, "said Huang Guifa.

In January 2016, China launched the construction of the "Changji Guquan" ± 1100 kV high-voltage direct current transmission project; In September 2019, the project was completed and put into operation. This project is the UHV transmission project with the highest voltage level, the largest capacity, the highest tower height, the largest weight, the largest transmission capacity, the longest transmission distance, and the most advanced technology in the world at present. It has created a new height in the world's grid technology, opened a new era in the development of UHV transmission technology, and has a major demonstration role for the development of the global energy Internet.

Behind this project is also the wisdom of the Guirong people. Huang Guifa said that in order to do a good job in the supporting construction of the "Changji Guquan" project, in 2016, the company successfully developed the first set of ± 1100 kV high-voltage DC filtering capacitor devices, the first set of ± 1100 kV pole line RI capacitor devices, and the first set of ± 1100 kV high-voltage engineering AC filtering capacitor devices, all of which were successfully applied in the project. These three product related technologies are all domestically pioneering and have reached the international leading level. Among them, the ± 1100 kV high-voltage DC filtering capacitor device was recognized by the Guangxi Science and Technology Department as the first major technical equipment in China in 2023.

Higher voltage levels, stronger insulation levels, greater seismic resistance of devices, and continuous adaptation to more harsh environmental conditions are the directions for innovation and development of our ultra-high voltage products, "said Huang Guifa. In recent years, the company has actively responded to the construction plan of the national flexible direct current transmission project, investing a large amount of funds in the research and development of DC support capacitors for converter valves. The main three models of products have passed the national level new product technology appraisal and successfully completed the first grid trial operation in the" Zhangbei Flexible Direct Current Transmission Demonstration Project ". At the same time, the company responds to the needs of the China Academy of Engineering Physics and actively develops a new generation of high-voltage dry-type and oil immersed pulse capacitors. Currently, the research and development work is progressing smoothly.

Due to outstanding achievements in technological innovation, Guirong Company has been awarded the title of National Technology Innovation Demonstration Enterprise, and has won the National Science and Technology Progress Award Special Prize twice and the National Science and Technology Progress Award First Prize once. In 2022, it was selected as a national level specialized and innovative "Little Giant" enterprise, and in 2023, it was approved to establish a postdoctoral research workstation.

Actively assisting in the construction of an energy-saving society 

Since 2020, China has comprehensively promoted the construction of new infrastructure (including seven categories including ultra-high voltage, 5G base stations, intercity high-speed railways and urban rail transit, new energy vehicle charging piles, big data centers, artificial intelligence, and industrial Internet). Driven by the construction of projects in the fields of smart grid, ultra-high voltage transmission, and new energy access, the scale of China's power capacitor market has shown a steady growth trend. Data shows that from 2015 to 2023, the compound annual growth rate of China's power capacitor market reached 10%, demonstrating strong development momentum. However, the Chinese power capacitor industry still relies on imports in some high-end product areas.  

The equipment manufacturing industry is a vital tool of the country and an important cornerstone supporting its comprehensive national strength. During the 14th Five Year Plan period, the company will further strengthen technological research and innovation, especially in key technical areas, continuously improve product quality, performance, and added value to better meet domestic and international market demands. "Wang Yi, General Manager of Guirong Company, said that polyethylene and polypropylene films are important basic materials for China's high-end manufacturing and defense industry. The core technology of polyethylene particles, the basic raw material, is monopolized by developed Western countries, and the high-end polyethylene particles produced by Western countries are restricted from export to China. In order to solve the "bottleneck" problem, starting from 2022, Guirong Company, as a downstream application verification unit, actively participates in the domestic substitution research and development of polyethylene particle production and application, and has made certain progress.
